Look around you and you’ll notice that there are two kinds of people: the ones who live and ones who merely exist.
There are some people that get up every morning not really knowing why they’re getting out of bed for. They do things that they’re “supposed to do.” Drive through rush hour, work a job they hate for 8 hours or more, go home, watch TV, go to bed and repeat this whole process until they retire. They feel something is wrong, something is missing but they don’t act on that feeling. It almost seems like they’ve became comfortable and just accepted that’s how things are. These people are just existing.
On the other hand, there are also a group of people that almost leap out of bed every morning. They’re ecstatic about their lives and they can’t wait to get their day started. Sure they work longer hours than most people but it’s the kind of work that energizes them instead of draining their energy. They get to choose who they work with and they’re not bound geographically. They have control of their finances and can decide how much money they want to make. They’re paid based on the amount of value they provide not how long they sit on their ass in a cubicle. They’re motivated to do great work. These people live their lives to the fullest.
Between these two types of people, which one are you?
The most common thread that successful people posses is they know what they’re getting out of bed for. They’re aware of their purpose. They actively seek it and move their lives to be in alignment with it. They do their best to spend as much of their lives doing it.
If you noticed that you’re just getting by and existing, you are not alone. I know what it’s like to be in your situation. Having worked many unfulfilling jobs, I know the pain of dragging yourself to do something you don’t really know why. I hated the idea of being told what to do by someone I didn’t really respect. Not only that, the idea of getting paid so little really made me feel insecure of my finances. I felt really frustrated with my life because it wasn’t going in the direction that I wanted it to be.
Do you want to change your situation? Are you ready to live your purpose but not sure where to get started? Here some guiding principles and essential questions for you to answer and really go deep within. Only you can define this but allow me to point you in the right direction.
Are You Living Your Purpose – 5 Questions To Ask Yourself
- If you are well provided w/ your basic needs, what is something you would love to do?
- What are topics or subjects would you be passionate to learn more about?
- Who do you ultimately want to help and make an impact in their lives?
- What do you want your friends, colleagues and family members to say about you in your funeral?

I understand these are deep and hard questions to answer. Take the time and write down as many statements as you can. Go for quantity not quality. Do not, I repeat, do not limit yourself. Trust your instinct; it’s usually the right answer. What you’ll want to do is look for common themes in your answer. Also, this is not fixed. It’s something that will evolve and change as you gather more experience and learn about yourself. This is just a good place to start your journey on the right foot.
You owe this to yourself. At the end of the day, it’s your responsibility to live a purpose-driven and meaningful life. Today, you have a choice. What’s it going to be?
